About this position
Postdoctoral Scholar opportunity at Penn State University Park in the Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science.
This one-year postdoctoral position focuses on Saharan dust analysis using a regional modeling framework. The successful candidate will conduct sensitivity studies with the WRF/MPAS model to investigate lower tropospheric heating in the presence of Saharan dust, and will analyze observations and numerical simulations using reanalyses as lateral boundary conditions.
Research areas and skills: atmospheric science, Earth science, environmental science, dust aerosols, regional climate/modeling, satellite and surface observations, computational analysis, and scientific writing.
Eligibility highlights: a Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a related field by the time of hire; experience with WRF or MPAS; strong computational skills; and good communication and writing skills. Experience simulating dust aerosols and comparing model output with satellite and surface observations is specifically relevant.
Funding: salary is commensurate with education and experience. The appointment is term-limited for one year, with continuation dependent on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
How to apply: external applicants should click Apply and submit a cover letter, CV with publication list, and names/contact information for up to three references. Review begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
