About this position
Postdoctoral fellowship at Université de Lorraine (Nancy, France) in the DynAMic Laboratory on engineering hyper-recombinogenic Streptomyces strains for biosynthetic pathway diversification and discovery of novel bioactive molecules.
This position is part of the DIAMS project (Diversification of the Specialized Metabolite Synthesis Arsenal in Streptomyces via Recombination Modulation). The project aims to exploit NucS-mediated recombination and DNA double-strand break repair to generate hyper-recombinogenic chassis strains, accelerate biosynthetic pathway evolution, and uncover new specialized metabolites with potential biotechnological applications.
The research combines microbial genetics, molecular biology, genomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics. Planned activities include genetic manipulation of Streptomyces, mutant and engineered strain construction, conjugation experiments, whole-genome sequencing, identification of hybrid biosynthetic gene clusters, and non-targeted metabolomics using high-resolution mass spectrometry. The successful candidate will work closely with the PASM Structural Analysis and Metabolomics Platform, the ASIA analytical platform, and international collaborators in the European GRASP project.
Applicants should hold a PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, genomics, or a related field. Experience with bacterial genetics, actinobacteria, DNA repair and homologous recombination, comparative genomics, metabolomics, mass spectrometry, or omics bioinformatics is highly desirable. Skills in Linux, R, or Python are considered an asset.
The position is based in Nancy, France, with access to strong facilities in genomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics. The expected start date is October 2026, with some flexibility. Salary starts at about €2,000 gross per month depending on experience. Some fully funded mobility within the GRASP consortium is expected in mid-2027.
