About this position
Open Postdoctoral Position at Stanford University
This is a postdoctoral fellowship in pain science, substance use disorders (SUD), and data science at Stanford’s Division of Pain Medicine, with training across interdisciplinary biomedical and clinical research areas. The program is led through the faculty mentor Sean Mackey and can connect fellows with one of 23 primary mentors across departments including Anesthesiology, Neurobiology, Medicine, Psychiatry, Biology, Radiology, and Psychology.
The fellowship emphasizes research training in neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology, optogenetics, electrophysiology, genetics, cognitive neurosciences, psychology, neuroimaging, data sciences, epidemiology, health policy, and the economics of pain and SUDs. The postdoc is especially suited to applicants interested in applying machine learning, building web applications or tools, and creating visualization dashboards for biomedical datasets.
Trainees should be comfortable with SQL, R, Python, database extraction, data cleaning, analysis, algorithm development and implementation, and data visualization. The program offers elective coursework, mentorship, seminars, an individual integrated research project, and training in grant proposals and manuscript writing. It is supported by an NIH T32 postdoctoral training grant.
Funding includes Stanford’s required minimum postdoctoral salary (FY27 minimum $79,056) and tuition support for the Stanford Masters in Epidemiology and Clinical Research for trainees who would benefit from additional clinical research training.
Eligibility is restricted to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, or lawful permanent residents. Applicants must hold an MD/PhD, MD, PhD, or comparable doctoral degree by the start date, with MDs conferred within six years and PhDs within three years of appointment. Applications from under-represented minority groups are especially encouraged.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Submit materials through the Stanford application portal, including a CV, Letter of Research Intent, and headshot.
