The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is offering multiple postdoctoral fellowships in collaboration with the Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Geomatics (RCAIG). These positions focus on cutting-edge research in GeoAI, urban climate and environment, urban ecology, and sustainable development. The research projects include topics such as the response of vegetation phenology to land surface temperature, optimal use of satellite thermal infrared image data, climate resilience to extreme heat, land-based climate adaptation and mitigation solutions, and foundational models for smart and resilient cities. Applicants are also encouraged to propose novel research ideas within these domains.

Successful candidates will work under the supervision of Professor Qihao Weng, contributing to innovative and interdisciplinary research in urban climate, ecosystems, environment, and GeoAI. The RCAIG fosters collaboration across five academic departments and three faculties, leveraging the JC STEM Lab of Earth Observations. The center is committed to promoting interdisciplinary research, talent development, and engagement with stakeholders in government, industry, and the community.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Remote Sensing, GIScience, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Geography, Urban Planning, Architecture, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Landscape Ecology, Meteorology and Climatology, Natural Resources, Agricultural and Forest Engineering, Economics, or related disciplines. Candidates should have no more than five years of post-qualification experience, experience in algorithm development, strong English communication skills, and at least two first-authored publications. Preferred qualifications include expertise in quantitative methods, statistics, computer science, geospatial data analysis and modeling, AI and geospatial computer vision, advanced programming skills in Python and R, experience with high-performance and cloud computing, and a strong publication record.

The appointment period ranges from twelve to thirty-six months, and a highly competitive remuneration package is offered. The closing date for applications is 30 June 2026.
