About this position

The Laboratory of Cardiometabolism at the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague is recruiting Postdoctoral Fellows, PhD students, and Master's students to join a dynamic research team focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying sex differences in cardiac metabolism and physiology. The lab, led by Junior Group Leader Lukas Chmatal, investigates how biological sex shapes cardiac energy metabolism using advanced mouse models, metabolomics, and proteomics. Research topics include cardiac physiology, mitochondrial biology, and the integrative analysis of omics data to uncover the molecular basis of sex-specific cardiometabolic regulation.

Postdoctoral candidates should have a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, omics data analysis, or a related field, with hands-on experience in mouse models, cell culture, and molecular biology techniques. Strong computer programming skills and excellent English communication are required. Additional experience in ChIP/epigenomics, NGS library preparation, or microscopy is advantageous. PhD and Master's applicants should hold or expect a degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, medicine, or related fields, and be fluent in English. Experience with in vivo and in vitro models is a plus.

The lab offers a vibrant, international environment with state-of-the-art facilities, including metabolomics, proteomics, metabolic cages, sequencing, and advanced imaging. Postdoctoral positions are supported by institutional guidance for MSCA and EMBO fellowship applications, with competitive stipends and comprehensive benefits such as 5 weeks of vacation, on-site gym, and access to a kindergarten. PhD and Master's positions are funded by institutional and grant support.

Applications are accepted until filled, with the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship deadline in September 2026 and EMBO deadlines in January and July. Early contact is encouraged for joint proposal development. To apply, postdoctoral candidates should send a CV, research statement, and referee contacts to [email protected] or use the provided application links. PhD and Master's applicants should apply through the program link or contact the lab directly. For more information, visit chmatallab.com or the lab's academic page.
