About this position

The Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL) in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, is offering a full-time postdoctoral position in Artificial Intelligence, focusing on the decoding of bilingual speech and neural data. This three-year appointment is designed for researchers with a strong background in computational neuroscience, machine learning, or related fields. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr Nicola Molinaro, contributing to the development and implementation of advanced machine learning models for multimodal neuroimaging analysis.

Key responsibilities include developing and optimizing analysis pipelines that integrate MEG and fMRI data, extracting and aligning linguistic features from transformer-based language models, and leading cross-language decoding and model evaluation. The postdoctoral researcher will also be involved in data preprocessing, quality control, documentation, and collaborative integration of shared decoding frameworks and explainability tools. The role offers opportunities for conceptual project development, scientific publication, and presentation at international conferences, as well as supervision of junior researchers and participation in grant-related activities.

BCBL provides a highly interdisciplinary research environment, with advanced training in neuroimaging analysis, multilingual AI modeling, and multimodal data integration. The position includes a full-time contract (35 hours/week), a gross annual salary of 30,000€-32,000€, and an end-of-contract payout. Additional benefits and entitlements are available as per institutional regulations, including access to a Personal Career Development Plan, training through personalized research projects, network-wide theoretical and methodological training, complementary courses, and involvement in proposal writing and event organization. BCBL actively promotes inclusion and equal opportunities through its LGTBIQ+ and Gender Equality Plans.

Applicants must hold a PhD in computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, machine learning, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in machine learning or statistical modeling. Experience with MEG, EEG, or fMRI data analysis, familiarity with transformer-based language models or multimodal learning approaches, open science practices, and reproducible research workflows are required. Excellent English proficiency, strong programming skills (e.g., Python), and the ability to supervise junior researchers are essential. Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and motivation, and two letters of recommendation via the application portal by October 6, 2026.

For technical questions, contact [email protected]. For research-related inquiries, contact Dr Nicola Molinaro at [email protected]. Further details about the position and the application process can be found at https://calls.bcbl.eu and BCBL job offers.
