About this position

Stanford University’s Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is advertising an open postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Michael S. Kapiloff, MD, PhD, in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Medicine.

The project focuses on astrocyte signal transduction, with emphasis on cAMP-regulated signaling, astrocyte neurotoxic and neuroprotective phenotypes, retinal ganglion cell injury, glaucoma, and retinal disease. The lab applies mouse models of retinal ganglion cell injury and mouse eye research to study signaling pathways in vivo and to develop novel gene therapy vectors for treatment of retinal diseases.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree conferred before the start date and are preferred to have expertise in mouse models of glaucoma and optic nerve injury, including optic nerve crush and increased intraocular pressure models, as well as immunohistochemical analysis of retinal ganglion cell survival. A first-author paper published or accepted for publication demonstrating relevant skills is required.

The appointment is for 1 year with renewal based on performance. The expected base pay is the Stanford University required minimum for postdoctoral scholars, with the FY27 minimum listed as $79,056.

To apply, email Dr. Kapiloff directly with a CV, contact information for three professional references, and a statement of research accomplishments and interests.
