About this position
Karolinska Institutet is offering a postdoctoral position in CNS regeneration within the Llorens laboratory at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology in Stockholm, Sweden.
The project focuses on stimulating regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system and uncovering principles of cell fate regulation that can be repurposed for repair. The lab combines glial and stem cell biology, genomics, computational biology, and animal models to study how resident stem cells and glia respond to injury. Using single-cell multiomics and related approaches, the group has previously identified latent regenerative potential in adult spinal cord stem cells and demonstrated that targeted intervention can stimulate remyelination and improve axon conduction after injury.
The current postdoctoral project aims to systematically screen and identify pro-regenerative genes through comparative analyses of glia-mediated CNS repair and in vivo perturbations. The successful candidate will work with novel spatial genomics technologies and experimental perturbation strategies to identify mechanisms and strategies that could improve repair in the injured CNS. This is a strong fit for candidates with interests in molecular neuroscience, regenerative medicine, glial biology, stem cell biology, single-cell and spatial genomics, and CNS injury models.
The position is hosted in Biomedicum, one of Europe’s largest laboratory environments, offering modern facilities and a highly collaborative research setting. Karolinska Institutet emphasizes medical research, interdisciplinary exchange, and strong links to healthcare, creating an internationally oriented environment for career development.
Eligibility requires a PhD or equivalent foreign degree by the employment decision date. The lab seeks highly motivated, independent applicants with a strong research track record and documented ability to carry out experimental research projects. Good English communication skills are required. Experience with molecular engineering, CNS injury models across species, viral gene delivery, and/or bioinformatics is an advantage.
The appointment is a temporary full-time postdoctoral position in Stockholm. The application deadline is 2026-08-17. Applicants must submit a PhD certificate, complete CV, list of publications, a summary of current work, and three references through the Varbi recruitment system.
