About this position
Postdoctoral position in Data Privacy and Machine Learning at Umeå University, Sweden.
The Department of Computing Science is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to work on privacy-aware machine learning, including data-driven models for complex and high-dimensional data, temporal data, synthetic data, and privacy-preserving methods at scale. The project covers privacy measures and models such as differential privacy, integral privacy, and k-anonymity, as well as centralized/decentralized settings and federated learning.
The research is connected to the Privacy-aware transparency decisions group led by Prof. Vicenç Torra, with links to broader research networks and the WASP program. The position is full-time for 2 years and is funded by WASP.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related subject, documented research experience in data privacy and machine learning, strong English skills, and preferably publications in top ML/security/privacy venues.

What's required
Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree by the appointment decision. Preference is given to candidates who earned the PhD no more than three years ago, unless special reasons apply. A qualified applicant must have a PhD in Computer Science or another relevant subject, documented knowledge and proven research experience in designing algorithms and methods for data privacy and machine learning, and a very good command of English (written and spoken). Publications in top machine learning and security/privacy venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, S&P, PETs, or ESORICS are highly meritorious.
