About this position
Postdoctoral position in digital media and communication at the Department of Communication, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen.
The successful candidate will join the ERC Advanced Grant project GREENWATCH – Green Surveillance: Imagining a Sustainable Internet of Things (2025–2029). The project explores the potentials and challenges of using the Internet of Things (IoT) as a communication system for monitoring the effects of human activities on Earth’s ecosystems, while also considering surveillance of individuals and social institutions.
The postdoc will conduct conceptual and normative analyses of imaginaries from China, Europe, and the United States concerning the pros and cons of IoT-based environmental monitoring and surveillance. The role is interdisciplinary and culturally comparative, with a strong focus on ethical and political aspects of digital media and communicative practices.
Eligibility: applicants must have PhD-level qualifications, strong theoretical and methodological competence, and fluent English. Preference may be given to candidates with knowledge of non-western communication theory and philosophy and/or experience in cross-cultural research.
Funding and terms: fixed-term appointment for three years. Salary starts at DKK 39,700 plus an 18.07% pension contribution, with possible annual salary supplements.
