About this position

Postdoctoral position in early modern philosophy, argumentation theory, and the history of disputation at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poland.

The project is titled Rules of Disputations and European Theories of Disagreement from a Polish-Lithuanian Perspective (1500–1795). Early Modern Views on Cognitive Diversity as a Means to Address Scientific Polarization, funded by the National Science Center, Poland. The successful candidate will conduct research on theories of argumentation in the project’s primary source corpus, with special attention to strategies attributed to good and bad disputants, contribute to the project’s theoretical framework, help edit and/or translate key texts, prepare publications and reports, present at conferences, and support dissemination and project administration.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in the humanities, strong publication record, international research experience, advanced Latin, and excellent English. The funding agency also requires that the PhD was awarded no earlier than 1 January 2014 (with possible exceptions) and that the degree was earned outside the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, or that the applicant has a 9-month research stay abroad during/after PhD studies.

Funding: full-time temporary postdoc contract, 9000 PLN gross per month.
