About this position
Max Planck Institute for Physics (Werner Heisenberg Institute) in Garching, Germany is advertising a postdoctoral position in experimental particle physics within the ATLAS muon and gaseous detector group.
The group works on the ATLAS muon spectrometer, upgrades for the High-Luminosity LHC, assembly/installation/commissioning of small-diameter drift-tube and resistive plate chambers, and development of gaseous detectors and electronics for future colliders. The research program also includes ATLAS data analysis focused on Higgs boson properties and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model.
The successful candidate is expected to take leading roles in detector installation and commissioning, and may also contribute to detector and front-end electronics development, ATLAS analysis, and teaching at the university. A PhD in particle physics and experience with particle detector operation are required.
The appointment is initially for two years, with possible extension depending on German law and available funding. Salary and benefits follow the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund).
Applications must be submitted online by 2026-10-31. Applicants should provide a cover letter, CV, publication list, and statement of research interests, and arrange for three referees to send reference letters directly to the contact person.
