About this position

Postdoctoral position at Aalborg University, Denmark, in the Department of Materials and Production within the Solid and Computational Mechanics research group.

The project focuses on modelling and structural optimization of composite structures, with applications in wind turbine blades and other lightweight structures. Research topics include composite materials, laminated composites, core materials, sandwich structures, finite element methods, static strength, fatigue behaviour, sizing/shape/topology optimization, multi-material optimization, and thickness optimization.

The role combines independent research with teaching and supervision in relevant engineering programmes. The postdoc will also use scientific and high-performance computing, contribute to publications and conference presentations, and may collaborate with industrial partners, especially in the wind energy sector.

Eligibility: PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related field; strong background in solid and computational mechanics; experience with finite element modelling and structural optimization; English communication skills; interest in teaching, supervision, and collaborative research.

Funding/employment: Full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral appointment for one year. Salary and employment terms follow Danish academic collective agreements. No stipend amount is stated.

Application: Submit an application letter, CV, diplomas, publication list (up to five publications may be attached), teaching/dissemination documentation if relevant, additional qualifications, and references through Aalborg University’s recruitment system.

Location: Aalborg, Denmark. Start date: 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

What's required

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Strong background in solid and computational mechanics is required, along with solid experience with finite element methods and documented experience with structural optimization, especially sizing, shape, and topology optimization of composite and sandwich structures. Experience with scientific and high-performance computing, design for manufacturing, design for sustainability, and robust design and optimization is highly relevant. Candidates should be able to communicate clearly in English, publish and present research, and contribute to teaching and supervision.

How to apply

Prepare the required application documents, including application letter, CV, diplomas, publication list, teaching/dissemination qualifications if relevant, additional qualifications, and references. Submit the application through Aalborg University’s recruitment system via the job advertisement on the university website.
