About this position
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is offering a Postdoctoral Position in Prehistoric Archaeology and Zooarchaeology within the Department of Prehistory. This full-time temporary appointment is based in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Spain) and is associated with research in prehistoric archaeology, zooarchaeology, and the prehistory of the La Garrotxa volcanic region.
The role is especially relevant for researchers working on Neolithisation processes, prehistoric faunal assemblages, and archaeological field and laboratory methods. The successful candidate will contribute to research that requires expertise in taxonomic and anatomical identification, biometric, taphonomic, and demographic analyses, archaeological excavation and survey, and the 3D documentation of archaeological materials and structures using high-precision scanners and digital model processing.
The position is intended for a researcher with a strong publication record in prehistoric archaeology, zooarchaeology, or related areas, along with experience presenting at scientific conferences and participating in knowledge-transfer and public-engagement activities. The post also requires the ability to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary team, coordinate fieldwork and laboratory tasks, and meet project deadlines.

Essential preferred experience includes specialised training or research experience in zooarchaeology, demonstrable research experience in the prehistory of the La Garrotxa volcanic region, especially Neolithisation processes, proven expertise in zooarchaeological analysis of prehistoric faunal assemblages (taxonomic and anatomical identification, biometric, taphonomic, and demographic analyses), experience in archaeological excavation and survey, and experience in 3D documentation and recording of archaeological materials and structures using high-precision 3D scanners and processing digital models, including VXelements software. Candidates should have a track record of scientific publications and conference presentations, be able to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams, and be proficient in spoken and written Catalan and Spanish, with sufficient English for reading, writing, and academic communication.
