About this position

Postdoctoral position at the University of Málaga in the Telecommunications Research Institute (TELMA), ComSP lab.

The project is Satellite-based Earth Observation (EO) for real-time territorial tracking with geometric awareness. The role focuses on satellite Earth Observation, geometric intelligence, mission planning, and satellite coordination for LEO constellations.

Research topics include the Agile Earth Observation Scheduling Problem, jointly considering observation opportunities, onboard processing, energy constraints, information freshness, image quality, and data delivery. The position also includes GPS-independent pose and orbit refinement using multi-view geometric vision.

The work combines mathematical modelling, optimization, ML/AI, simulation, and proof-of-concept development and validation. The successful candidate will support PhD supervision, publish in leading journals and conferences, and contribute to future proposals.

Eligibility highlights: Master’s degree held or in progress in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Vision, or a related field, with interest in communication networks. Strong background in optimization and scheduling, satellite/space systems, EO, image processing, or ML/AI is expected. Python and/or MATLAB are required; C/C++ is an advantage. A strong publication record, independent research ability, and excellent English are also required.

Funding and duration: 2 years, full-time, with possible extension. Starting early 2027.
