About this position

Postdoctoral position in societal aspects of copyright and AI at Lund University (LTH, Faculty of Engineering), Sweden.

This 2-year postdoc is part of the Nordforsk project COPY.AI, coordinated by the Norwegian Computing Centre, and is embedded in the research group for AI and society led by Stefan Larsson. The project examines the future of intellectual property in the context of generative AI, with a strong focus on the intersection of copyright, AI model training, large language models (LLMs), transparency, compensation, authorship, and societal impacts.

The role is research-focused and may include up to 20% teaching. Duties include conducting research, arranging workshops with legal and technical expertise, analysing cases, and writing scientific papers. The post may also involve collaboration with industry and wider society, plus travel connected to Nordic collaboration and international conferences.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant social science discipline such as sociology of law, science and technology studies, media and communication studies, or another interdisciplinary field relevant to AI, law, and society. Required experience includes empirical research, primarily qualitative methods, basic knowledge of intellectual property and copyright law, and familiarity with new technologies such as AI/LLMs. Very good English, independence, teamwork, structure, and persistence are also required.

The position is full-time and fixed-term for 2 years. Start date is January 2027 or by agreement. The application deadline is 2026-11-09.

To apply, use Lund University’s recruitment system and submit an English CV, personal letter, a 2-page proposed study plan inspired by the call, degree certificate/equivalent, and any supporting documents you want considered.
