About this position
Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) is advertising a postdoctoral position in Software Design and Architecture in the era of AI within the Department of Software Engineering and the SERL Sweden research environment.
The project sits at the intersection of software architecture, software design, and artificial intelligence. The research focus includes AI4SE and SE4AI, with particular attention to how AI components such as LLMs, RAG modules, retrainable ML models, prompting logic, data pipelines, model-wrapping services, and explainability mechanisms change the way software systems are designed, deployed, governed, tested, and maintained.
The postdoctoral researcher will work on architectural and design questions such as modularity, decoupling, versioning, lifecycle management, architectural evaluation, non-determinism, continuous data dependencies, and maintainability in AI-intensive systems. The role also involves applied research in close collaboration with industry partners, with opportunities to publish in top-tier conferences and journals.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent by the employment decision date. Preference is given to candidates who completed the PhD within the last three years, unless special reasons apply. Helpful experience includes software engineering, software architecture, data analysis, modern AI/GenAI/LLMs, empirical software engineering, AI prototyping, human-AI interaction studies, and industrial collaboration.
Employment details: place of employment is Karlskrona, Sweden; employment level is 100%; duration is temporary for 2–3 years, with the total period not exceeding three years. Up to 20% of the time may involve teaching and supervision.
Deadline: 2026-08-23.
Apply via the BTH vacancies page and follow the instructions to applicants. Prepare supporting documents that demonstrate your doctoral qualification, research background, and relevant experience in AI and software engineering.
