About this position
Postdoctoral Position in Viral Ecology, Epidemiology, Evolution and Zoonotic Transmission at the University of Caen Normandy, within UMR 1311 Inserm Dynamicure and the MAGLAB Viral Evolution and Genetic Adaptation Group led by Dr. Meriadeg Ar Gouilh.
The project investigates the emergence mechanisms and virus-host interactions of sarbecoviruses (coronaviruses) in bats. The successful candidate will contribute to a multidisciplinary research program spanning host and viral ecology, viral epidemiology and evolution, host immunity, and zoonotic transmission mechanisms.
Research activities include fieldwork on bat capture, sampling, and GPS/VHF tracking; data analysis using spatio-temporal modeling of viral spread; and laboratory work such as high-throughput sequencing (NGS), genomic analysis of sarbecoviruses, viral isolation on established cell lines, and experimental evolution studies. The team emphasizes collaboration with internal members and external national and international partners.
The group has extensive experience in coronaviruses, with more than 30 publications and prior discoveries of novel bat coronaviruses in Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as long-term monitoring of a Sarbecovirus in Rhinolophus ferrumequinum and microbat tracking studies.
