About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Advanced Nuclear Reactor and Fuel Cycle Engineering within the Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Analysis Group (RNFCA).
This postdoctoral role focuses on nuclear engineering, reactor physics, fuel cycle analysis, neutronics, and thermal-hydraulics. The successful candidate will work with state-of-the-art modeling and simulation tools such as SCALE, VERA, OpenMC, MCNP, Serpent, MOOSE, and Cyclus to support next-generation nuclear reactor design and advanced fuel cycle strategies. The work includes developing, optimizing, and analyzing reactor models, contributing to fuel cycle studies, and collaborating with industry, national laboratories, and university researchers.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a PhD in nuclear engineering or a related field completed within the past 5 years, with demonstrated research and publications in reactor analysis. Programming/scripting experience in C/C++, Python, Fortran, Git, or CMake is an asset. Strong communication and writing skills are expected, along with the ability to publish. Preferred experience includes multiphysics software, numerical algorithms, and the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
