About this position

Imperial College London is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Bioengineering, Faculty of Engineering, to join the Ballester group on an AI-driven project in antifungal drug discovery.

The role focuses on building an integrated functional genomics and chemoproteomic platform to improve therapies against the fungal pathogen Candida auris. The successful candidate will develop AI models to predict whole-cell antifungal activity across ultra-large synthesis-on-demand chemical spaces, model antifungal-induced toxicity across multiple biological contexts including organ-specific iPSC-derived cell lines, and use pre- and post-treatment scRNA-seq profiles to predict susceptibility or resistance of individual isolates to specific antifungal treatments.

This is a postdoctoral opening at a world-leading institution, with collaboration across Imperial groups within the Fleming Initiative, GSK, and the Dundee Drug Discovery Unit. The project is funded by the Wellcome Trust and runs for 24 months. Salary is listed as £50,733 - £59,484 per annum.

Applicants should hold a PhD in AI-driven drug discovery, ideally with expertise in AI-enabled phenotypic drug discovery and a strong publication record. Strong candidates from related areas such as precision oncology and biomedical bioinformatics will also be considered.

The post is based at South Kensington and White City Campus and is on-site only. The closing date is 28 October 2026. Apply online via the Imperial recruitment portal. For informal enquiries, contact Dr Pedro Ballester at [email protected] and include your CV and list of publications.
