About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate in AI-Enabled Atomic-Scale Materials Characterisation at the University of Sydney (Camperdown Campus, Australia).
This full-time, 12-month fixed-term postdoctoral role sits in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (AMME) and focuses on the intersection of materials science, physics, advanced microscopy, atom probe tomography (APT), artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computational/data-driven materials research. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative, international, and interdisciplinary team with HDR students, researchers, and industry/academic collaborators.
Research responsibilities include investigating atomic-scale structure, chemistry, defects, and structure-property relationships in advanced materials; developing quantitative and AI-enabled approaches for materials characterisation and scientific discovery; and contributing to publications, conferences, grant development, and student supervision/training.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Materials Characterisation, Computational Materials Science, or a closely related field; demonstrated expertise in advanced microscopy and microanalysis, especially APT; experience with TEM, SEM, EBSD, XRD, and complex materials datasets; strong quantitative/computational/programming skills; and a strong publication record with excellent communication and teamwork skills. Applicants must have unrestricted work rights in Australia; visa sponsorship is not available.
Funding: Academic Level A salary of $117,936–$125,896 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
