About this position

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in AI for Hydrological Modeling within the Computational Hydrology and Atmospheric Science (CHAS) Group.

The position focuses on hydrological modeling, Earth system modeling, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-model integration. Research topics include AI foundation models for hydrological and Earth system prediction, physics-informed and physics-ML hybrid methods, multimodal and multiscale data analysis, compound flooding in coastal regions, uncertainty-aware AI, and scalable scientific computing using leadership-class HPC resources.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hydrology, Earth system science, water resources engineering, computational sciences, computer sciences, or a related field completed within the last 5 years (or expected soon). Required experience includes hydrological or Earth system modeling, computational science, numerical methods, high-performance computing or large-scale data analysis, AI/ML for environmental sciences, scientific programming (Python, Julia, R, Fortran, or C/C++), and evidence of publications and conference presentations.
