About this position
Queen Mary University of London is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Biological and Experimental Psychology within the School of Biological & Behavioural Sciences. The project, led by Dr Margherita Malanchini, is titled “Investigating the combined impact of behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders on education.”
The role sits in the Cognition, Development and Education (CoDE) Lab and focuses on an important gap in research on the overlap between neurodevelopmental disorders and disruptive behaviour disorders. The successful candidate will investigate how these conditions jointly affect educational outcomes, while considering genetic and environmental risk factors and their interplay.
Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in psychology, psychiatry, bioinformatics, human genetics, epidemiology, or statistics. Strong experience with large developmental cohort studies, structural equation modelling, and statistical tools such as R or PLINK is expected, along with familiarity with GitHub or similar code/data repositories. The post also asks for evidence of published research, strong organisational and management skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Research interests aligned with neurodevelopmental disorders, behavioural problems, and developmental psychopathology are especially relevant. The post is a fixed-term, full-time appointment for 18 months and offers a salary of £42,933–£47,550 per annum. Candidates close to PhD completion may initially be appointed at a lower training-zone salary until the doctorate is awarded.
The closing date is 1 November 2026 at 23:55. Interested applicants should apply via the Queen Mary jobs portal and consult the job pack for full role details.
