About this position
Washington State University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Cannabis, Brain, & Development (CBD) Lab in Dr. Ryan McLaughlin’s lab, within the Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, United States.
The project uses a multidisciplinary rodent model to study the long-term effects of prenatal cannabis exposure on corticostriatal circuit function and cognitive flexibility. The role includes behavioral neuroscience experiments such as vapor self-administration and operant conditioning tasks, including attentional set-shifting and reversal learning, as well as stereotaxic surgeries, viral AAV injections, optic fiber implants, fiber photometry recordings, and management of a rodent breeding colony.
Preferred preparation includes a background in developmental neurobiology, cannabinoid pharmacology, and in vivo calcium imaging (fiber photometry). Candidates should also have experience with, or a strong desire to learn, ex vivo electrophysiology. The position also emphasizes leadership and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.
Required qualifications include an earned PhD in Neuroscience or a relevant discipline, strong written and oral communication skills, a record of accomplishments, and fewer than five years of research experience since the doctoral degree. This is a full-time, temporary postdoctoral appointment for 12 months, with renewal dependent on extension needs and/or additional funding.
Funding and benefits include a monthly salary of $5,186-$5,862 commensurate with experience and education, plus a comprehensive WSU benefits package with paid leave, holidays, medical, dental, life and disability insurance, retirement, and deferred compensation.
Applications must be submitted online through the WSU Workday portal by 2026-11-08. Applicants should upload a CV and cover letter and clearly address the required and preferred qualifications. References will be requested during the application process.
