About this position

Iowa State University’s Department of Chemistry is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the research group of Professor Aaron Rossini in Ames, Iowa, United States.

The project centers on solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy for the structural characterization of pharmaceutical solids and related materials. Research topics include active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), pharmaceutical cocrystals and salts, formulated drug products, hydrogen-bonding interactions, molecular structure, and intermolecular organization.

The role involves experimental method development and application of advanced NMR approaches such as fast magic-angle spinning (MAS), proton-detected NMR, dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP), multinuclear spectroscopy, multidimensional correlation experiments, isotope enrichment strategies, NMR crystallography, crystal structure prediction, density functional theory (DFT) calculations of NMR parameters, and complementary powder X-ray diffraction.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related field. Preferred experience includes solid-state NMR, multidimensional data analysis, pulse-sequence development, pharmaceutical or organic solid characterization, and computational/quantitative analysis skills.

This is a full-time postdoctoral appointment. The posting notes Iowa State University employee benefits and states that pay will be commensurate with qualifications; no specific stipend is listed.

How to apply: click the official Apply link, complete the Employment Application, and upload a CV/resume and cover letter. The posting closes on 2026-09-26.
