About this position
Texas A&M University’s Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT) is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Galveston, Texas, United States. The role focuses on disaster resilience, coastal engineering, hydrodynamic and morphodynamic coastal processes, and flood risk reduction, with collaboration across the Department of Ocean Engineering and related research efforts.
The successful candidate will contribute to research on planned storm surge suppression systems along the U.S. Gulf Coast, including beach and dune modeling or hydrodynamic field data collection and analysis. Typical tasks include data collection, analysis, writing summaries, technical progress reports, presentations, publications, and outreach activities supporting evidence-based disaster resilience solutions.
Research areas and keywords: coastal hydrodynamic modeling, morphodynamic modeling, nearshore dynamics, flood control infrastructure, nature-based flood mitigation, flood forecasting and warning systems, GIS, Python, Matlab, R, and coastal sediment transport.
Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in Civil, Ocean, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with relevant expertise in coastal systems, coastal numerical modeling, nearshore field data collection, hydraulic engineering, or geotechnical challenges. Preferred experience includes coastal modeling tools, field surveying and instrumentation, and strong communication skills.
Funding: the position is supported by grant and/or contract funding and is contingent on continuation of that funding and satisfactory performance. Salary is commensurate with experience.
