About this position

The Institute for Sustainable Technical Systems (INATECH) at the University of Freiburg is advertising a postdoctoral Research Associate position in Digitalization & AI in Battery Research. The role is based in the Battery Data Science junior research group and focuses on the development and application of new AI methods for the non-destructive quality assessment of lithium-ion battery cells.

Research topics include machine learning, deep learning, anomaly detection, aging prediction, time series analysis, signal processing, image data analysis, and the creation of data infrastructures according to the FAIR principle. The group also works on the digitalization of research and development processes in battery cell production and follows open science standards.

The laboratory work takes place at the Fraunhofer ISE Center for Electrical Energy Storage in Freiburg. The position includes research, publication, presentation of results, occasional conference travel, and support for teaching as well as supervision of doctoral candidates and students.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with strong Python and deep learning skills, publication experience, and excellent German and English. Experience with computer vision, data management, ontologies, electrochemical systems, or battery technology is advantageous.
