About this position

Royal Holloway, University of London is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Geochemistry within the Department of Physical Sciences and Engineering, based in Egham, Surrey, United Kingdom. The post is part of the NERC-funded RE-FLUX project, Calibrating the rhenium isotope proxy for petrogenic CO2 emissions from rock weathering, led by Professor Alex Dickson and Professor Rebecca Fisher.

The project aims to advance a new proxy for geological emissions of carbon dioxide to the oceans and atmosphere from rock weathering. The successful candidate will undertake isotope measurements of experimental and field samples, contribute to fieldwork in the UK and Europe, work with project partners, and disseminate findings through publications and conference presentations.

Applicants should have demonstrable research experience in geochemistry, stratigraphy, and the global carbon cycle and weathering processes. Experience with non-traditional isotopes, molecular geochemistry, and/or Earth-system modelling would be advantageous. The post is full-time, fixed-term for three years, starting in January 2027.

Funding includes a salary of £41,374 per annum pro rata including London Allowance, plus a competitive benefits package and access to career development support, including the Centre of Climate Ocean and Atmosphere (COCOA), the RHUL Early Career Researcher Academy, and the RHUL Researcher Development Programme.

To apply, use the Royal Holloway vacancies portal and quote reference 0926-325. The closing date is 20 October 2026 at 23:59 BST. Informal enquiries may be directed to Professor Alex Dickson at [email protected]; HR queries can be sent to [email protected].
