About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in HPC system architecture and intelligent storage design within the National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS), Technology Integration group.
The position focuses on research and development for high-performance computing, scientific AI, and scientific edge computing. Research interests include telemetry collection and analysis for system optimization, workload characterization, predictive fault tolerance, architectural exploration of DDR and HBM memory systems, and redesign of storage systems for AI/ML and edge-to-HPC workflows.
Responsibilities include I/O and storage performance characterization, telemetry-driven design decisions, mixed-memory and bandwidth-intensive workload analysis, design of ephemeral and composable data/storage systems, and system-level approaches for time-sensitive data processing. The role also includes coauthoring peer-reviewed publications and technical reports, and engaging with professional and research organizations.
Eligibility: a PhD in computer science, engineering, or a relevant area is required. Applicants must have a research track record in HPC/AI/edge systems and storage research within the past five years and must complete all degree requirements before starting. Preferred experience includes hardware-software co-design, memory hierarchies, telemetry tools, HPC software development, collaboration, and mentoring student interns.
