About this position
Aston University is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in membrane protein folding and assembly within the Aston Institute for Membrane Excellence (AIME) in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The project is part of a newly funded BBSRC Pioneer Award and focuses on the fundamental principles governing mammalian membrane protein biogenesis. The successful candidate will use dynamic mass photometry (DMP), a label-free single-particle tracking technique, together with cell-free methodologies to monitor membrane protein synthesis on ribosomes and to visualise insertion, folding, and assembly in artificial lipid bilayers that mimic mammalian lipid composition.
Applicants should have a strong background in membrane biology, protein and lipid biochemistry, or microscopy and image analysis. Experience independently managing research projects is required. The advert also welcomes candidates who have recently submitted their PhD and are awaiting award. Full training will be provided where needed, and the role is especially suited to researchers who enjoy multidisciplinary collaboration across biology, chemistry, and imaging.
This is a 22-month fixed-term post starting in January 2027. The post may qualify for endorsement under the Global Talent visa route. To apply, candidates should upload an up-to-date CV and a covering letter explaining their motivation via the Aston University vacancy portal.
