About this position
Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Cambridge in the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MRC MBU), working with Prof. Michal Minczuk on the ProMiT multicentre project funded by the ARIA Precision Mitochondria initiative.
The project sits at the interface of mitochondrial biology, RNA biology, genome engineering, biochemistry, and molecular biology. The successful candidate will help develop and validate technologies for the delivery and functional use of genetic material in mitochondria, establish mammalian cell models and mitochondrial preparations, and develop assays for mitochondrial localisation/import, sub-mitochondrial distribution, membrane integrity, and function.
Research activities include molecular biology, bioenergetics, biochemical fractionation, sequencing, single-cell approaches, and mechanistic studies of mitochondrial RNA import in protists, including robust in vitro assays. The role also involves integrating molecular and functional datasets to support programme milestones and collaborating across the wider ARIA Precision Mitochondria programme.
Eligibility: applicants should hold, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in a relevant biological discipline. Strong experience in mitochondrial, cell, RNA, or molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related area is required. Experience in mammalian cell culture and genome engineering is important; experience with mitochondrial isolation/fractionation, protease-protection assays, bioenergetics, sequencing, single-cell methods, flow cytometry, RNA biology, or quantitative analysis is highly advantageous.
Funding and terms: this is a fixed-term postdoctoral appointment for 36 months, with a salary range of £34,610–£46,049 depending on grade/point. Extension may be possible subject to programme progress and funding availability.
How to apply: apply online via the University of Cambridge recruitment system, upload a covering letter and CV, and provide referee details including email address and phone number. Quote reference SM50861 in your application. Closing date: 16 September 2026.
