About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate opportunity at the University of Oxford in natural product chemistry, biochemistry, biosynthetic chemistry, and chemical biology. The role sits within the Oxford Martin Programme on Safer Antifungals and focuses on discovering naturally inspired compounds to combat fungal diseases in agriculture and medicine.

The project is interdisciplinary and brings together expertise from Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Medicine, the Ineos Oxford Institute, and Oxford University Innovation. The successful candidate will work on bdelloid rotifers and their antifungal defense mechanisms, including bioactivity-guided extraction and purification, structure elucidation, mechanism-of-action studies, biosynthetic origin analysis, pathway reconstruction, chemical/biosynthetic diversification, and biological activity/toxicity assays.

This is a full-time postdoctoral opening for 36 months, starting 1 January 2027 and running until 31 December 2029. The closing date is 11 November 2026. Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and strong laboratory experience in natural products, chemical structure analysis, or synthetic/genetic biology approaches to biosynthesis. Excellent communication, initiative, teamwork, and an interest in research translation and innovation are desirable.

Applications must be submitted online through the University of Oxford e-recruitment system. A supporting statement and CV are required.
