About this position

Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Woo Lab within the Division of Cardiology and Department of Pediatrics. The project focuses on the mechanisms of Group 3 hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension and strategies to prevent or reverse pulmonary vascular remodeling.

The research is highly translational and combines mechanistic studies in genetic mouse models and patient-derived human samples with single-cell genomics, single-nucleus multiomics, spatial transcriptomics, computational analysis, and preclinical therapeutic testing. Key topics include endothelial dysfunction, endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition, vascular smooth muscle cell and pericyte plasticity, FGF and growth-factor signaling, vascular inflammation, and targeted nanoparticle therapeutics.

The postdoctoral researcher will lead a mechanistically focused project, help shape the scientific direction of the work, and receive individualized mentorship for study design, scientific communication, fellowship development, leadership, and career advancement. The lab environment includes state-of-the-art core facilities and collaborative resources across cardiovascular and pulmonary medicine, pediatrics, genomics, pathology, and bioengineering.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent terminal/doctoral degree. No specific work experience is required. Preferred strengths include collaboration, data analysis, experimentation, laboratory techniques, research, results reporting, and scientific writing.

Funding details are limited in the posting; the role is full time and base pay is commensurate with experience. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, and the start date is flexible.

To apply, submit a current CV, a one-page statement of prior research accomplishments, future research interests, career goals, and fit with the lab, contact information for three professional references, and one representative first-author publication or manuscript if available.
