About this position

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Quantum Many-Body Systems at King's College London (Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences).

This is a postdoctoral research opening focused on quantum many-body systems, quantum algorithms, tensor networks, Pauli propagation, and classical benchmarking for quantum simulation. The project sits within a collaborative quantum science effort involving quantum hardware co-design for Google's Willow processor and numerical methods for simulating highly occupied bosons coupled to qubits.

The post is based at Strand Campus, London, United Kingdom. It is a full-time fixed-term appointment for 9 months, with salary £45,031 - £48,607 per annum including London Weighting Allowance.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD in theoretical physics, computational physics, quantum information, quantum computing, applied mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field (or have submitted the thesis and be awaiting award). Strong research experience in tensor networks, Pauli propagation, quantum simulation, many-body physics, or related numerical methods is expected, along with excellent programming skills in Python, Julia, C++, or similar.

How to apply: submit a CV and supporting statement addressing the essential criteria, and include evidence for desirable criteria where possible. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the advert closes on 2026-10-20. Apply via the King’s College London recruitment portal.
