About this position

EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Quantum Informatics (QI CDT) is inviting applications for up to 16 fully funded four-year PhD studentships in Quantum Informatics with integrated study for September 2027 entry.

This cohort-based programme is hosted by a consortium of five institutions: University of Edinburgh (lead institution), Heriot-Watt University, University College London, University of Oxford, and University of Strathclyde. The training bridges computer science, mathematics, physics, and engineering, with a focus on quantum hardware, software, and applications.

Funding is fully provided for 4 years and includes tuition fees, a stipend, and an individual budget for travel and research costs. UK and international students are eligible. The programme also offers a taught first year, cohort-building activities, leadership and outreach opportunities, residential symposia, spring schools, and a residential programme at the National Quantum Computing Centre.

Applicants should have or expect to obtain the equivalent of a 1st or 2:1 degree in a relevant subject such as computing science, engineering, mathematics, or physics. Part-time study is available for those needing flexible arrangements, and the CDT provides support for sick pay, parental leave, and disabled students’ support.

Applications must be submitted via the University of Edinburgh online application system. Required documents include a CV, Statement of Intent, two references, and academic certificates/transcripts. Deadline: 7 January 2027.
