About this position
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the laboratory of Carmen Bergom, MD, PhD in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
The NIH-funded lab studies the effects of radiation on the heart, lungs, and tumors. Research themes include preventing radiation-induced cardiac and pulmonary injury in cancer patients, developing localized cardiac radiation as a therapy for cardiac disease, and identifying dietary and metabolic strategies that improve the efficacy of radiation therapy in tumors.
Projects use rodent models of heart failure, pulmonary toxicity, and cancer; image-guided small animal irradiation; and cell, iPSC-derived cardiomyocyte, and organoid systems. The work also integrates single-nucleus RNA sequencing, proteomics, flow cytometry, and related molecular and computational approaches, with collaboration across cardiology, immunology, imaging, and clinical research.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent terminal/doctoral degree. Preferred backgrounds include radiation biology, cardiovascular biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, immunology, physiology, bioinformatics, or related fields. Strong communication skills, first-author publications, and experience with rodent models are preferred. Bioinformatics experience, especially single-cell or single-nucleus transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, or proteomic analysis, is a strong plus.
This is a full-time postdoctoral opening with salary commensurate with experience. The position is available beginning February 1, 2027, and applications are reviewed immediately until filled.
To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references via the online application portal.
