About this position
RIKEN’s Nishina Center for Accelerator-Based Science, Nuclear Chemistry Research and Development Laboratory is recruiting for Special Research Fellow, Research Fellow, or Technical Staff I (1 position) in Japan. The work is based at the RIKEN Wako Campus in Saitama Prefecture and is connected to the AMED Next-Generation Cancer Medical Acceleration Research Project.
The research focus is nuclear chemistry, radiochemistry, radioisotope production, and radioisotope application research using the heavy ion accelerator at the RIKEN RI Beam Factory (RIBF). Duties for Special Research Fellow and Research Fellow include development of RI manufacturing and utilization technologies, RI application research, RI manufacturing and distribution, and maintenance/management of experimental facilities such as RI manufacturing equipment and hot labs. Technical Staff I will support RI manufacturing, quality evaluation, distribution, facility maintenance, RI/chemical management, and experimental support for collaborators.
Eligibility depends on the role. For Special Research Fellow or Research Fellow, applicants should have a PhD or be expected to obtain one by the hiring date, and must have experience in research using unsealed radioisotopes. Special Research Fellow candidates should generally have earned their doctorate within the last 5 years; Research Fellow candidates generally should have earned their doctorate at least 5 years ago. For Technical Staff I, applicants should have a chemistry-related university or technical college degree, or equivalent/higher qualifications; experience handling unsealed radioisotopes is a plus. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work proactively and reliably are emphasized.
Funding is employment-based rather than a scholarship: the positions are fixed-term contract roles with annual income starting from about 3 million yen, plus discretionary work allowance, commuting allowance, housing allowance, and social insurance. Estimated monthly compensation is listed for each role. The contract is initially for one year and may be renewed until March 31, 2029 depending on performance and project conditions.
The application deadline is 2027-10-02, though the institute may close applications earlier once a suitable candidate is found. Applicants should submit the required electronic documents, including a resume and list of achievements, via the RIKEN recruitment/public offering page.
