This is a full-time, fixed-term role for up to 2 years focused on the SorGain program, a research, development and extension initiative co-funded by GRDC and UQ to improve Australian sorghum production. The successful candidate will lead the “Knowledge Integration, Grower Insight and Decision Frameworks” work package, combining crop agronomy, agricultural systems, decision science, stakeholder research, mixed-methods analysis, meta-analysis, and machine learning to produce practical decision-support outcomes for growers and industry.

Key responsibilities include regional evidence synthesis, agronomic and survey data integration, qualitative and mixed-method research with growers/advisers/industry stakeholders, interviews, focus groups, participatory workshops, and coordination of project milestones, reporting, publications, and funding proposals. The role also contributes to supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD (or submitted doctoral thesis) in agronomy, crop science, farming systems, agricultural systems science, agricultural extension/innovation, decision science, or a closely related field; strong experience in broadacre farming systems; quantitative and computational skills in R/Python; evidence synthesis/meta-analysis experience; and a strong publication record. For Academic Level B, applicants should also have at least 3 years of post-PhD research experience and evidence of leadership and supervision.

Funding/salary: AUD 85,373–113,660 plus 17% superannuation at Level A, or AUD 119,463–141,545 plus 17% superannuation at Level B. The post is research-focused and does not mention tuition support or a scholarship.

How to apply: submit a resume, cover letter, and responses to the “About You” section via the application portal. Applications sent by email will not be accepted. The closing date is 2026-10-25 at 11:00pm AEST.
