About this position
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in bacterial cell biology for an Einstein Foundation Berlin-funded collaborative project with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The project focuses on bacterial type III secretion systems and spatial RNA localization, combining bacterial genetics, high-resolution live-cell microscopy, quantitative image analysis, and molecular/cell biological approaches. The position is based at the Institute of Biology, Molecular Microbiology in Berlin and involves active participation in the Berlin-Jerusalem collaboration, including research stays in Jerusalem.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a completed scientific university degree and a PhD in microbiology or a related field. The post calls for a strong publication record and experience in at least two of the following areas: microbiology, bacterial genetics, RNA biology, microscopy, and molecular biology. Skills in quantitative image analysis, RNA-focused methods, bacterial secretion systems, Python/R, and independent collaborative research are advantageous. Very good English (C1) is required.
Funding: this is a full-time, funded postdoctoral position (E13) supported by the Einstein Foundation Berlin and funded until 30 September 2029. The planned start date is 1 October 2026.
Application window: deadline is 2 June 2026. Apply by sending a single PDF with cover letter, CV, research statement (max. 3 pages), publication list, certificates, and at least two reference letters. Reference job ID DR/092/26 and email the application to [email protected].
Research interests: microbiology, bacterial cell biology, RNA localization, bacterial secretion systems, imaging, and quantitative analysis.
