About this position

Technical University of Munich (TUM) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Characterization of Bio-Nano Interfaces at the Chair of Complex Soft Matter, led by Prof. Stefan Guldin.

The position is linked to the ERC Consolidator Grant project Engineering Multivalency for Superselective Recognition of Pathogen Targets (EngToTarget). The successful candidate will work on emerging topics spanning soft matter, colloid science, biointerfaces, molecular self-assembly, molecular recognition, biomolecular interactions, and advanced materials characterization.

Research activities include developing and applying advanced methodologies for investigating interactions at bio-nano interfaces, with emphasis on colloidal systems and functional nanostructured materials for life science applications. The group’s broader research covers bioinspired colloid science, multiphase emulsions and gels, phase separation and structure formation, and structure control for tailored bio-nano interfaces and materials.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field such as materials science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or nanoscience. Strong experimental experience with techniques such as AFM, QCM-D, scattering, spectroscopy, ellipsometry, or related methods is desirable. Skills in quantitative data analysis, image analysis, and scientific programming are beneficial. The role also values experience with biosensing, mesoporous materials, nanostructured interfaces, and biomolecular interaction studies.

The position offers access to state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure, advanced characterization platforms, significant scientific freedom, and a collaborative international environment. It is initially funded according to TV-L for 24 months, with possible extension depending on performance and funding availability.

Application deadline: 21 June 2026. Applications should be submitted as a single PDF by email to [email protected]. Informal inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
