About this position

University College Dublin’s School of Medicine, Charles Institute of Dermatology, is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PD1) position in the ECM lab led by Associate Professor Seungkuk Ahn. The role is part of the ERC-funded DESIGN-ECM project, which studies how the species and sex of extracellular matrix and cells affect the design of better 3D tissue models.

The project sits at the intersection of bioengineering, tissue engineering, mechanobiology, organoids, materials science, and nanobiotechnology. The successful candidate will work with two PhD students to establish core methods and datasets during the first 36 months of the 60-month ERC project. Main tasks include: (1) engineering and characterising 3D ECM scaffolds, (2) performing in vitro cell validations, and (3) developing 3D ovarian organoid models.

This is a full-time temporary postdoctoral position in Ireland with a fixed salary of €47,273 per annum. The start date is 01 May 2027. The closing date is 05 November 2026 at 12:00 noon local Irish time.

Applicants should be early-stage researchers with a PhD completed or near completion, or someone entering a new area for the first time. The advert also notes that applicants whose total postdoctoral experience, including the advertised post, would exceed 4 years should not apply for PD1. Desired skills include communication and interpersonal skills, bioengineering, tissue engineering, mechanobiology, organoids, and extracellular matrix protein engineering.

To apply, read the further information and application procedure on the UCD Work at UCD website and submit the application through the online system before the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.
