About this position
Stanford University is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position with faculty mentor John Openshaw in the Stanford School of Medicine. The project focuses on heat stress and strategies for adaptation in coastal informal settlement communities, with field work in Eastern Indonesia.
The fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of physician researchers, epidemiologists, environmental scientists, biologists, and engineers. The work includes building and improving data collection pipelines using temperature/humidity sensors, wearable devices, and surveys; leading analyses of field data; and helping pilot, implement, and evaluate heat-adaptation innovations such as reflective cool roofs and household/personal cooling approaches.
This postdoctoral opening is aimed at a recent PhD graduate with interests in interdisciplinary research, field implementation in low-income settings, and the evaluation of human health outcomes. Strong skills in data science, survey development, REDCap, and data analysis in R and/or Python are highlighted. Experience with human-subject research and health outcome measurement is also required.
The appointment is for one year with possibility of extension. The post is based at Stanford University, with required visits to the field site in Eastern Indonesia. Compensation is at least the Stanford postdoctoral minimum; the FY27 minimum is $79,056.
To apply, email a CV, cover letter, and two professional references to John Openshaw at [email protected] using the specified subject line.
