About this position
Central Michigan University is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to assess flood risk in Michigan. The project, led by Dr. Roderick Lammers, is part of the Building Predictive Capacity to Enhance Stormwater Infrastructure and Flood Resilience initiative and focuses on producing data and tools that help communities plan for and adapt to climate-driven flood hazards.
The research will combine climate model outputs with hydrologic and hydraulic models to quantify future flood impacts in three pilot watersheds: the Chippewa River, Lower Grand River, and Rouge River watersheds. The role also includes engagement with community partners and work supported by the Department of Energy Resiliency Center program.
Required background: a Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Watershed Hydrology, Earth Science, or a related field; experience with hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling; scripting skills in Python, R, or similar; ability to work independently and as part of a team; and experience writing scientific journal articles.
Preferred experience: WRF-Hydro, Advanced Terrestrial Simulator (ATS), SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, high-performance computing, and Linux command line. The appointment is full-time for 12 months, with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
How to apply: submit the online application via the CMU jobs portal and upload a cover letter, CV, and three professional references. The post is open until filled, and the expected start date is February 2027 (negotiable).
