About this position

Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Integrated Assessment of Data Centers at the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, Indiana, United States).

This postdoctoral opening is part of Notre Dame’s Just Transformations to Sustainability Initiative and Notre Dame Energy. The project focuses on a spatially explicit, justice-centered integrated assessment of data center growth in Indiana and the Midwest, with attention to electricity, water, land, health, workforce infrastructure, and policy. The fellow will work in an interdisciplinary cohort with expertise spanning LLMs, machine learning, infrastructure sustainability, policy, environmental economics, community resilience, and spatial modeling.

Research activities may include using large language models and AI for data collection, synthesis, analysis, and modeling; collecting and analyzing social, economic, workforce, and health data; and conducting policy analysis at local, state, and federal levels. The role also involves developing analytical frameworks, decision-support tools, and scenario-planning models, plus co-authoring publications and contributing to grant writing.

Preferred expertise includes hydrology, modeling, water resource management, systems ecology, or geographic information systems. The required background is a Ph.D. in a relevant field such as hydrology, ecology, environmental science, geography, or engineering, along with strong analytical skills, a strong publication record, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

This is a full-time postdoctoral position with an initial one-year appointment, renewable for a second year depending on performance and funding. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis starting 2026-09-02 and continue until the position is filled.

To apply, submit a cover letter, CV, a recent publication or dissertation chapter, and contact information for at least three references through Interfolio.
