About this position

University College Dublin is advertising a temporary Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 position in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The project is funded by the Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Weather Forecasting and Climate Change, a collaboration between UCD and Met Éireann.

The research focuses on the statistical post-processing of raw numerical weather prediction (NWP) output to correct known model biases. The successful candidate will work on improving the accuracy and reliability of weather forecasts, with downstream benefits for forecasters, weather warnings, the Met Éireann website and app, and third-party services.

This is a postdoctoral opening, not a PhD or master's call. The post is intended for early-stage researchers, typically just after PhD completion or for someone entering a new area for the first time. Applicants should note the PD1 eligibility guidance: if you have already completed PD1 at UCD, are about to complete PD1, or your total postdoctoral experience would exceed 4 years including this post, you should not apply and should instead refer to PD2 posts.

Funding and salary: the role is funded and offers a salary range of €47,273–€53,925 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment is for 24 months.

Deadline: applications close at 12:00 noon local Irish time on 27 October 2026. Applicants must submit through the vacancy page by the deadline; late applications are not accepted.

How to apply: use the Apply button on the vacancy page to access the full application details and submit your materials before the closing time.
