About this position
The Cyprus Institute is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Soil Erosion within the Energy, Environment and Water Research Centre (EEWRC) in Cyprus. The position is part of the Horizon Europe EUROSION Project (European Soil Erosion Monitoring and Modelling Network for Sustainable Agricultural Land Management), coordinated by Wageningen University and involving 24 research partners.
The successful candidate will join the Water Department at the Institute’s Athalassas Campus and contribute to long-term wind and water erosion monitoring in Cyprus. Research activities include installation and maintenance of runoff and suspended sediment sampling stations, wind erosion monitoring in an agricultural plain, soil and vegetation sampling and analysis, drone surveys, 3D data processing, dust sampling, and maintenance of automated erosion and meteorological equipment.

What's required
PhD degree in Earth, Environmental or Agricultural Sciences or a related field; proven experience in wind or water erosion field research (e.g. MSc/PhD project); experience using dataloggers and environmental sensors; experience in soil laboratory analysis; excellent programming skills (e.g. Python, R); strong analytical and organizational skills; driver’s license. Preferred: field experience with drone surveys, processing drone survey data and constructing digital surface models, experience with Agisoft Megashape or similar, and skills in satellite-based image processing and analysis. English proficiency at an excellent level is required.
