About this position

Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Trustworthy GenAI-assisted Software Engineering at the Department of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. The work is based at Campus Bergen, Norway, and is linked to the strategically funded TERSE project.

The project focuses on software engineering, generative AI, machine learning, trustworthy AI, and software quality. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with the project’s work package leaders on industry-facing empirical studies, methods, and software tools to detect, prevent, and mitigate faults in GenAI-generated software. The role also explores how software engineering education and curricula should adapt to the GenAI era.

The research environment is the software engineering research group at HVL, which works on empirical software engineering, model-based software engineering, formal methods, AI, machine learning, collaborative systems, and security. The group has strong industry and academic collaborations and offers a broad, active research setting.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a PhD in informatics, computer science, or software engineering, or have submitted the PhD thesis before the deadline; the PhD must be awarded before appointment. The ideal profile includes experience with GenAI in software development or software engineering for AI, strong publication record, practical software engineering skills, industrial collaboration experience, and strong English or Norwegian communication skills.

Funding and terms: the position is for up to 3 years and includes work expense funding for conference travel, research visits, and equipment. Salary follows the Norwegian government salary regulation for position code 1109, with a compulsory pension deduction.

Application deadline: 20 September 2026. Apply online via Jobbnorge and include a cover letter, CV with publication list, up to five selected publications, educational certificates, transcripts, and 2–3 references. If your degree is from outside Norway, you may need certified translations and recognition documentation from HK-dir.
