About this position

University College Dublin is advertising a temporary Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 position in the School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, working with the UCD Algae Group on the Micro-lysis project.

The project aims to develop a breakthrough biorefinery platform that transforms fresh microalgal biomass into valuable lipid and protein ingredients. The successful candidate will characterise microalgal cell-wall structure and use those insights to optimise extraction from fresh biomass.

This is a research-focused postdoctoral role under the supervision of a Principal Investigator, with opportunities to build skills in publication, funding proposal development, graduate student mentorship, and research-led teaching.

Eligibility highlights: intended for early-stage researchers, typically just after PhD completion or those entering a new area for the first time. Applicants with more than 4 years of total postdoctoral experience (including this post), or those who have already completed PD1 at UCD / are about to complete PD1, should not apply.

Funding: fixed salary of €47,273 per annum. The appointment is full time (1.0 FTE) for 3 months.

Deadline: 12 October 2026 at 12:00 noon local Irish time.

Apply via the vacancy page using the Apply button before the closing date. Late applications will be automatically cancelled.
