About this position
The University of Coimbra is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research grant within the intraSTAPH project, Investigating Staphylococcus aureus Intracellular Lifestyle to Inform Antibiotic Selection. The position is hosted at UC-Biotech, Biocant Park, Cantanhede, in the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, Portugal.
The selected researcher will work on the phenotypic profiling of the intracellular lifestyle of a library of S. aureus single mutants in macrophages, using fluorescence microscopy-based infection assays and automated image analysis. The role also includes validating mutant intracellular profiles, generating complemented strains, running complementary assays in different host cell types, analysing subcellular localization, and testing antibiotic activity against intracellular S. aureus through concentration-response experiments and in vivo efficacy assessment.
This call is aimed at candidates with a PhD in Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field, obtained within the last three years, and with doctoral research carried out at a host institution different from the one where the grant will take place. The grant is described as a full-time, temporary postdoctoral assignment with an initial duration of 12 months and a possible renewal.
The monthly grant amount is 1901.00 EUR, paid by bank transfer at the end of each month. The award is funded by the La Caixa Foundation through the Health Research Programme 2025 under reference HR25_00467. Additional support includes voluntary social security, where applicable, and mandatory personal accident insurance.
Applications must be submitted through the Apply UC platform. Candidates should upload an updated, dated, and signed CV, copies of academic degree certificates, a motivation letter, and any other relevant supporting documents. Contact details for two academic references are also requested. The application window runs until 20 October 2026.
Selection will be based on the academic record and interview, with attention to the candidate’s relevant knowledge, publication record, profile fit, motivation, and communication skills. The supervisor is Ana Sofia Bregieiro Eulálio at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology.
