About this position
The University of Coimbra is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research grant under the REGENERAR project, Improving the Effectiveness and Safety of Epigenetic Editing in Brain Regeneration (GA no. 101129812). This is a full-time, temporary research position based at UC-Biotech in Coimbra, Portugal, with one vacancy available.
The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation and characterization of a gene-editing formulation and its evaluation in cellular and in vivo models. The project aims to develop a non-viral delivery formulation up to TRL4 for tissue regeneration applications, particularly in contexts with limited self-repair capacity. The consortium includes academic and industrial partners from Portugal, Germany, and Sweden, highlighting a strong translational and collaborative research environment.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Engineering, or a related area. The PhD must have been awarded within the last three years, and the doctoral research must have been carried out at a host institution different from the one that will host this grant. The call also excludes candidates who would exceed three years of cumulative time in this type of grant. The selection process values specific experience in cell culture, cell characterization (including immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR, and RNA-ISH), and nanotechnology, alongside the overall merit of the CV and interview performance.
The grant runs initially for 6 months and may be renewed. The monthly stipend is €1901, and the award includes voluntary social security if opted in, as well as mandatory personal accident insurance. Funding is provided by the European Union through Horizon Europe / EISMEA under grant number 101129812. Grant holders must acknowledge this support in publications, communications, theses, and other outputs, and research results are expected to follow current open-access standards.
The scientific supervision/coordination of the grant is assigned to Lino da Silva Ferreira. Jury members listed in the notice include Luís Miguel Beicinha Branco Estronca and Susana Margarida Neto Simões as effective members, with Vitor Manuel dos Santos Francisco and Daniela de Fátima Rua Matos Talhada as alternates. Applications must be submitted electronically through Apply UC.
Application deadline: 2026-08-18 at 23:59 (Africa/Abidjan). Required documents include an updated, dated, and signed CV, copies of degree certificates, a motivation letter, references, and any other relevant supporting documents. Materials must be uploaded in PDF format and submitted in Portuguese and/or English. If the degree was obtained abroad, recognition or proof of recognition request must be provided by the deadline.
